Air Albania Stadium
Located in the iconic Piazza Italia in the heart of Tirana, Air Albania Stadium is the largest stadium in Albania and a testament to the nation’s commitment to modern sports infrastructure and architectural innovation. Rising on the site of the former Qemal Stafa Stadium, which was demolished in June 2016, the new stadium blends history, symbolism, and functionality into a landmark structure.
Designed by Marco Casamonti of Archea Associati, the architecture features a bold octagonal shape with an inscribed ellipse, creating a dynamic and modern aesthetic. Dominating the stadium’s north-west side is a striking 112-meter-high tower that serves both official and commercial purposes, offering stunning views of the city and providing additional multifunctional spaces.
A key design element is the incorporation of the Albanian map, symbolically placed and highlighted with metal panels in traditional red and black decor, celebrating the nation’s identity. The preserved western façade of the original Qemal Stafa Stadium, designed by Gherardo Bosio, was carefully dismantled and integrated into the new facility, including the grand entrance stairs, paying homage to the historical significance of the site.
The stadium accommodates 22,500 spectators and is a multifunctional venue, hosting not only football matches but also concerts and cultural events. Its innovative design and state-of-the-art facilities make it a hub for sports and entertainment in the region.
Air Albania Stadium was inaugurated on November 17, 2019, marking a new chapter in Albania’s architectural and sporting heritage while providing a cutting-edge arena for fans and visitors.
