Description

The Cemetery of the Martyrs of the Nation is a monumental complex located on a hill overlooking Tirana, near the Presidential Palace. Inaugurated in 1971, it serves as a solemn and symbolic tribute to the Albanian partisans who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom.

Location and Layout

The cemetery spans an area of 94,488 m², strategically situated to offer a commanding view of Tirana. Its elevated position reflects its significance as a sacred and commemorative site, visible to anyone entering or leaving the city from the eastern side.

“Mother Albania” Statue

At the heart of the cemetery stands the iconic Mother Albania statue, positioned at the highest point of the hill.

The cemetery is the final resting place for 900 partisans who fought for Albania’s liberation during World War II.
